light painting is created when a photographer takes a long exposure picture of someone moving a hand-held light source. the picture that is revealed after the long exposure is a single image that has captured all of the movement of the light source. the story behind how light painting became an artform is actually quite interesting! it gained popularity after an experiment in 1914 when two photographers began taking long exposure pictures of a manufacturing plant workers to track their movement and streamline their tasks. the results were images that were so beautiful that the photographers began taking more long exposure shots and reinventing the artform.
