GRAFFITI backpacks spark controversy

a backpack that has been banned in several states! sounds like a joke, right? actually, it’s not. known for innovative designs, SPRAYGROUND is one of the leading brands for streetwear-inspired backpacks and luggage, and they just released an update to their 2010 “ultimate graffiti utility” backpack design and it is EPIC.

a native of miami, lead designer and founder DAVID BEN DAVID (aka DBD) grew up skating, surfing, and painting, and learned early on how important it was to have a backpack with the functionality for everyday use. After attending art school, DBD decided to use his design skills and knowledge of the action sports lifestyle to create a line of backpacks that speaks to the streetwear community stylistically, while still maintaining high performance standards.

SPRAYGROUND backpacks are often highlighted by hidden features, such as velour laptop, tablet, and sunglasses compartments. The new design also fits eight 400ml cans and features eight quick slip compartments, marker and nozzle storage, sketchbook pocket, side zipper pockets, ergonomic mesh back padding, adjustable straps for custom sizing, nylon zippers with metal hardware, custom hardware and durable 900D water-resistant fabric.

Sprayground backpacks are the manifestation of DBD’s dream, as they truly do combine impressive fashion with functionality. the graffiti utility backpack has stirred up quite a bit of controversy since it was made available, with critics voicing concern it “sends the wrong message” and “encourages vandalism.”

One concerned citizen in utah says “well, this is just really cool, a graffiti pack. just wonderful for all of our nice friends to carry around and then in a moment or two just shoot everybody’s walls and property up.”

DBD, on the other hand, states: “version two and three have been banned in four states because they say the backpack promotes vandalism. i say it promotes creativity and gives an outlet to the artist to express her/himself creatively.”

SPRAYGROUND also recently expanded their product offerings to include wallets, jackets, ski masks and more. check out all of their products on their website, here. and don’t forget to watch their latest promo video below!
